2 level 36,000 gallon Koi pond.
This is a 2 level 36,000 gallon Koi pond with Boulder fountain in the center. The client wanted to breed koi with a separate area for the babies to develop in. Biological filter system is hidden to the left of the waterfall in the trees. The filter system consists of 3 Aqua dine filters, 3, 3/4 hp pumps, 2 160w UV clarifiers and, 3 air-assisted bottom drains.

Meticulous soil preparation for aquatic plants is essential. The precise ratio of sand to clay must be carefully calculated, with special attention given to maintaining minimal levels of other organic materials.

Planting and growing out seedlings
The lily on the right is planted in a specialized aquatic plant container, designed to support the unique characteristics of aquatic plants. Unlike terrestrial plants, which require deeper containers for vertical root growth, aquatic plants thrive with horizontal root generation. We choose these specialized containers to provide the optimal spacing needed for this horizontal growth, ensuring the health and vitality of the plants in an aquatic environment. In contrast, the lily on the left is in our in-house grow container, used exclusively for starting young plants. These grow containers do not provide the necessary spacing for optimal plant growth and should not be used for display in your pond. They are solely for initial plant propagation and are kept in-house, not distributed to clients. Most commercial sellers provide only inexpensive, shallow, small containers that do not support the long-term health and growth of aquatic plants. It is essential to transition your plants out of these containers and into properly sized aquatic plant containers as soon as possible.
Our lotus plants, on the other hand, develop a much larger root system and require more space, necessitating a larger diameter container for optimal growth. We start our lotus in 16-inch pots and quickly transition them to 22-inch containers or larger, depending on the specific variety.

Our loyal client’s plants get special treatment.
We heat the greenhouse at night and, depending on the temperature, allow it to cool using only passive solar heat during the day. This careful management ensures that the plants are ready for placement in ponds by spring. We utilize two different types of heaters: one propane and one kerosene-fueled, to maintain optimal conditions for growth

Some plants require a more gentle hand than others.
The Yellow Iris is definitely not, I repeat, NOT a sissy. Sometimes, you have to get a little ruthless with this tough customer to give the other plants a fighting chance!

When you let your pond turn into a jungle and your aquatic plants run wild, we have to meticulously remove each variety. And if you have a rubber liner pond, the stress level skyrockets—fear of cutting the liner and reducing plant survival rates is real. But fear not—we get the job done!

Delivering aquatic plants can be quite challenging due to their perishable nature when removed from their natural aquatic environment. Their fragile stems and delicate leaves make them susceptible to breakage and crushing during transit, requiring careful handling and protective packaging to ensure they arrive in pristine condition.
This fully grown lotus, now in its second season, proudly displays one beautiful blossom, with three other un-opened buds just out of view in the picture.
